OER Community

This is an open invitation to all educators in Asia and those others who have an interest in Asian education to become a part of our community. The ideals of the community are enshrined within the context of the Cape Town Declaration on Open Education and that is “everyone should have the freedom to use, customize, improve and redistribute educational resources without constraint”.

This community is sector blind and welcomes participation of all those associated with education from basic and primary education to life long learning.

To all members of the OER Community on the WSIS KC,

The Open Educational Quality Initiative (OPAL), a European consortium of which UNESCO is a member, will be holding an Oxford Debate on Open Educational Practices (OEP).

This online debate will take place from 12 to 24 October 2011 on UNESCO’s WSIS-OER platform.

The topic of this second OPAL Oxford Debate will be: "Would mainstreaming the use of Open Educational Practices (OEP) really transform education?"
http://www.wsis-community.org/pg/debates/group:14358/overview/400536

The OPAL Oxford Debate will focus on the concept of OEP policies, as well as on policy-making in monitoring and spear-heading adoption of such policies in institutions using open educational resources (OER).

The OEP Oxford Debate starts a very exciting Oct - Dec quarter for the OER Community on the WSIS KC.

On Tuesday 1 November, UNESCO will be launching the UNESCO OER paltform and the UNESCO/COL Policy Guideliens for OER in Higher Education.

On Monday 14 November, UNESCO will be hosting the OPAL OEP Policy Forum at UNESCO HQ in Paris.
